The first song – the evolution of music: Lecture by Professor Armand Leroi

Collaborating with Brian Eno and the Alan Lomax Foundation in New York, Armand Leroi (Reader in Evolutionary Developmental Biology) is using evolutionary algorithms to trace the history of song styles. He is analysing thousands of songs from around the world to find out how they are related to each other.singing

“Perhaps,” he says, “we can even identify some of the features of the very first song sung by humans.” Hear him speak on the subject in the Sir Alexander Fleming Building on Thursday 30th April at 19.00.
