‘News of birds and blossoming’

The New Naturalist series of books focusing on the flora and fauna of Britain recently marked 60 years of publishing. Since the first book, E.B. Ford’s Butterflies, appeared in 1945 over 100 volumes have been published covering subjects from ‘Insect Natural History’ (A.D. Imms – 1947)  to ‘Islands’ (R.J. Berry – 2009).  An article by Richard Mabley in the Guardian last month celebrated the series and discussed how it could evolve to meet the needs of today’s naturalists.

Although the library doesn’t hold every volume in the series we do have a good collection of them . If you’re on level 4 of the library in the next few weeks you may be interested in looking at the small display we’ve put together.
